Where Are My Pants?

One normal Sunday many years ago, my family and I were getting ready for Church which would start in about an hour. As a young man I would always throw my clothes around the room and stuff them in random doors so I wouldn't have to fold them and hang them up. While we were getting ready for Church I realized that I couldn't find my dress pants. I was looking everywhere for them and I couldn't seem to find them. As a typical teenager would do, I started blaming my brothers claiming that they took them and hid them. After about 15 minutes of searching, I finally decided to kneel down in prayer to my loving Heavenly Father. I told my Heavenly Father how much I wanted to go to church, I asked sincerely for help. As I asked I had suddenly remembered the last Sunday that I had stuck my pants in a door so I wouldn't have to hang them up. As the week went on I completely forgot they were there. I closed my prayer and went to open the door having faith that they were still there. As I opened the door I saw my dress pants.

I know that God is there and that he is our Heavenly Father and that he wants to here from his children. He is waiting to bless us, all we need to do is SINCERELY ask for help. A lot of times I catch myself in the middle of prayer just going through the motions, not truly talking with him. I have to constantly remind myself to give him time to talk to me. In the experience I shared I was praying and I paused and allowed time for him to respond and that is when I remembered where I had put my pants the week before. Remember, God wants to talk to us to, he doesn't just want to be talked at.

The Book of Mormon tells us "Therefore, ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; for he that asketh, receiveth; and unto him that knocketh, it shall be opened."(3 Nephi 27:29) This phrase is reiterated many times throughout the Bible and the Book of Mormon. The Lord means it. If we ask, we will receive. If we knock, it will be opened unto us. If we have a question, ask God, our Eternal Father.

Satan tries to take away our communication with Heavenly Father by making us think "I'm tired, I'm just going to sleep." I think this on a regular basis but I have to correct myself and pray anyways. If we lose our communication with God we will have no strength to resist the temptations of the Devil. We must pray daily, all throughout the day if we are going to have strength to overcome the temptations of Satan. The Doctrine and Covenants also tells us how to overcome Satan's temptations. "Pray always, that you may come off conqueror; yea, that you may conquer Satan, and that you may escape the hands of the servants of Satan that do uphold his work." (Doctrine and Covenants 10:5)

We also must be grateful. Now looking back on that moment, I never got back on my knees to thank God for helping me. It was very ungrateful of me to do that. We need to thank him for all the blessings we receive. And if we do thank him, he will be willing to bless us more.

I love my Heavenly Father. I know he is there to strengthen me. He wants me to return to him. I know he feels the same way for you. Just pray and ask him the things you desire and he will lead you to the right path.
