Keep Hope

In life, we all face things that we are trying to overcome. Sometimes we are working on having the charity that Christ had, or maybe trying to have more patience getting through trials. Or even sometimes striving to keep the commandments of God. In doing these things we try our hardest and try to run strong along the "Straight and Narrow Path", but sometimes we trip and fall a little bit off the path. Maybe we don't even fall off the path, but we just trip and get a little scuffed up hitting the ground and become discouraged.

We should not become discouraged. When we become discouraged we sit down on the path for a little time waiting. Why waste the time that God has given us? We should get on our knees after we fall, pray to our Heavenly Father for strength to keep pressing forward. Then we should get up and keep running along the Path of Righteousness.

In the October 2008 General Conference Elder Uchtdorf gave a talk on Hope. He tells the story of his family traveling west on a train out of Germany. It was very dangerous traveling. On one of the stops his Mother went to get food for her four children. When she returned she noticed the train was missing, terrified she prayed to her Father for help. Having the hope in her heart, she overcame the fear and she eventually was able to find her children. "I know with certainty: her faith overcame her fear, and her hope overcame her despair. She was not a woman who would sit and bemoan tragedy. She moved. She put her faith and hope into action. And so she ran from track to track and from train to train until she finally found our train." If she would not have turned to her Heavenly Father and prayed and had the Christlike attribute of hope she could possibly have never seen her children again.

She also didn't sit down and mourn, she prayed, got up and pushed forward with action and received the blessing. With our Heavenly Father all things are possible. There is absolutely nothing we can't do with Heavenly Father Mark 10:27. If we put faith in our savior, Jesus Christ, and have hope and overcome fear, we can accomplish those things we are working on. We can get up from hitting the ground and keep running on the Straight and Narrow Path to eternal life. I know that if we do ALL we can to keep God's commandments and constantly strive to become better he will help us overcome those obstacles.
